What is Cloud Computing ?
Cloud computing is an approach to client-server in which the “server” is a dynamically scalable network of loosely coupled heterogeneous nodes that are owned by a single institution, and the “clients” are a wide variety of individuals and institutions that use fractions of shared nodes to run jobs that are transient with respect to time, compute-intensity, and storage-intensity. Cloud computing makes an entire data-center’s worth of servers, networking devices, systems management, security, storage and other infrastructure, look like a single computer.
In Cloud computing all you will need is a Computer and Internet, rest everything is managed by us. Because we host both the Initio application and the data, the end user of College is free to use the service from anywhere. Clouds often appear as single points of access for all Colleges’ computing needs. Key to cloud computing is not to focus on the hardware, you just focus on Initio application.
Initio Software-as-a-service (SaaS) delivers Initio as a service over the Internet, eliminating the need to install and run the application on the College’s own computer. In the cloud model College don’t hand over their own IT resources to be managed. Instead they plug into the “cloud” for Initio software services (SaaS), treating the “cloud” much as they would an internal data center or computer providing the same functions.
Advantages of Cloud Computing
1. No Hardware/ Software Installation or Download
Initio runs in the cloud which means you just log in, customize and start using it. It runs on our shared data center and the College does not need a data center with office space, power, cooling, bandwidth, networks, servers, and storage. A complicated software stack. And a team of experts to install, configure, and run them. Neither do they need development, testing, staging, production, and failover environments. Initio is fast to get started and costs less, because you don’t need to pay for all the people, products, and facilities to run it.
2. Free Product Upgrades
Initio upgrades are taken care of for you, so you get security and performance enhancements and new features—automatically, free of any additional cost. You don't have to worry about backup and updates, it is done periodically and centrally by Initio team on the central server.
3. Elasticity
Cloud Computing enables us to scale our application to run on 10’s to 100′s of servers depending on load. All this happens almost instantly and the best thing is that you don’t even realize that. This dynamic capability to scaling up and down can demand any number of resources on cloud. Cloud Computing offer an intuitive way of manipulating the server configuration and topology. Elasticity is one of the important attribute of the Cloud.
